PROJECTS
LIGHT UP THE CITY PROJECT FOR 2010
The primary objective of this project is to make eMalahleni “A MUST OFF RAMP” either from N12 OR N4 freeways pre-, during, and post 2010 World Cup.
Lighting up the City for 2010 is a community driven project managed from the office of the Executive Mayor and entails in the main the following focus sub-projects:
Firstly, the renovation of Sy- Mthimunye previously known as Ackerville Stadium. Anglo Coal SA has pledged R30 million to renovate and give the stadium a face – lift. The stadium will be ready by the end of April for practice matches and as a training venue. Plans are at foot to engage different National teams and we hope to put a firm deal on the table by March 2010 at the latest.
The partnership between Council, mining houses and big business is worth noting that the private sector needs to intensify its visibility and presence in the Local Space through Lighting up the City Project for 2010 as well as Football Friday in preparations for the World Cup Road Show to be hosted by our city on the 1st June 2010.
Other than the renovation of the stadium, there is another sub-project called “Adopt a Street”. The adopting Parent / Company will ensure that the street is tarred and/or there are no potholes, proper storm-water drainage systems, and in some instances the adopting parent may decide to fix and/or install Street Lights.
Prospective parents/companies within the greater eMalahleni are invited to adopt at least one street before the end of February 2010.
Road infrastructure is a sure way of attracting investment to our Local Economy. Given our strategic spatial location as a City with adequate and proper road infrastructure matched with the current economic prowess of the municipality, we are destined to bigger heights.
In this regard, an invitation is extended to the Private Sector led by local business to support this project by adopting a street and/or any sub-activity under city beautification which may include cleaning, greening and / or branding of the City.
Any company or organization willing to be part of this historic moment may contact the project manager at 013 690 6234
These projects are aligned to the delivery of basic services and sustain infrastructure development.
Other key performance areas wherein the role of business is critical include:
- The inner city regeneration
- Twinning arrangement with cities within the continent and internationally
- The potential growth of the tourism industry in our municipality.
- Good road infrastructure
- Job creation and poverty eradication
LETS ALL LIGHT UP THE CITY FOR 2010!!!!!
Municipal Emergency equipment worth about 28million will be housed safely in the new Fire building that is currently under construction on the corner of Swartbos and Bettylaan/Avenue front opposite Cosmos Hospital. The building is supported financially by the Nkangala District and Emalahleni Local Municipality. The construction is on phase 1 and is expected to be completed by the end of May this year. It will be operational by then and will be able to respond to emergencies such as head on collisions and fire related incidences. The venue also provides rooms that will be used to train different organizations on safe emergency response actions that may take place at the workplace.
Fire and accident prevention awareness campaigns will be done in various venues around Emalahleni. The fire department encourages that all residents to fully utilize the facility when it is necessary to do so. This facility will be available 24hours a day throughout the week
