DIRECTORATE OF PUBLIC SAFETY
This directorate forms part of eMalahleni Municipality. The purpose of this directorate is to provide traffic safety, crime prevention services, fire and rescue services, and disaster management services that ensures the safety of all communities within Emalahleni Municipality.

The directorate comprises of three departments with 5 sections being:
- Emergency Services
- Disaster Management
- Licensing department
- Security section
- Traffic section
Functions of this section include:
Enforcement of municipal by-laws
Protection of municipal assets; and
Crime prevention
Traffic Services
Functions of this section include:
Education about traffic safety
The erection and maintenance of road signs and surface markings
Traffic law enforcement
Escorting( e.g. abnormal loads, funerals)
Fire and rescue services
Services provided by this division include:
Fire inspection
Fire training courses
Fire prevention
Fire fighting
Rescue and recovery of injured victims
Disaster Management
Services provided by this division include:
Risk and vulnerability assessments
Prevention and mitigation
Preparedness and recovery
Community outreach programmes
