Friday the 5th of March saw the Launch of the International T.B .Month at the Civic Theatre in Emalahleni. The event was to mark the progressive campaign of creating awareness of Tuberculosis as the number one killer of infected persons with HIV/AIDS. The launch discussed amongst other issues the nutritional value of managing T.B, the challenges in creating awareness of this disease and the link between T.B and HIV/AIDS.
The Provincial Coordinator of MATA (Mpumalanga HIV/AIDS and T.B .Association) Mr.F.Skosana commented that ‘T.B is often ignored and receives less support in its awareness campaigns as opposed to the attention and support given to HIV/AIDS campaigns’. Such days where T.B is discussed, it then becomes imperative to support it as it deteriorates and compromised the immune system of HIV infected persons. Identifying symptoms as well as accessing treatment for this disease must be know by the community members as we all affected even though we may not all be infected.
