EXECUTIVE MAYOR CLLR C.N NKALITSHANA’S WOMEN'S MONTH 2022 MESSAGE

WOMEN OF EMALAHLENI “RISE” TO PROMOTE HEALING, HOPE AS YOU ADVANCE YOUR SOCIO - ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT.

The Executive Mayor, Cllr. CN Nkalitshana in her 2022 Women’s Month message would like to start by congratulating Banyana Banyana for winning 2022 Women’s African cup of Nations, WELL DONE GIRLS!

The people of South Africa have declared the Month of August as the Women’s Month to pay tribute and celebrate Women of this country for the sacrifices and contributions of immense proportion they have made to deliver a post-apartheid democratic dispensation.

Women have always risen to a challenge whenever the nation and or our communities are under siege.

This year we wish to give a special tribute to the selfless work of caregivers and frontline workers as the nation was pulling through the devastating Covid – 19 pandemic, and most women continued to give hope to their children as the nations of the world are facing the hardship of unprecedented inflation rate and depressed economic activity aggravated by gender based structural oppression.

Accordingly, I call upon all social partners, decision makers in both the public and private sector value chain to accelerate implementation of workplace Gender Equity Plans. We need more women in the Executive and Senior Management band but also to collectively eliminate Gender stereotypes and push for the fifty fifty gender balance of employment opportunities at entry level.

Women of Emalahleni rise and organise yourself in order to participate meaningfully in the local growth industries such as Mining, Energy, Construction, Retail and Trade, Manufacturing and Agro – processing including the emerging Green Economy and ICT Sectors.

Women of Emalahleni rise to organise yourself to drive the skills development space which is an anchor of sustainable Economic Recovery path.

Women of Emalahleni rise and “invade” in your numbers the Sports, Culture and Heritage preservation and awareness programmes which are often abused to sustain patriarchal leftovers.

Finally, Women of Emalahleni rise to stop the rapid rise of GBV Epidemic, Femicide and human trafficking in our city fueled by drugs and substance abuse.

LET US ALL JOIN HANDS AND BREAK THE SILENCE IN A JOURNEY OF NO RETURN TOWARDS WOMEN EMANCIPATION.
