The Emalahleni Local Municipality (ELM) Disaster Management Unit has received a weather alert from the South African Weather Service (SAWS) regarding a cold front expected to make landfall over the Western and Northern Cape on 09 August 2026 before moving inland on 10 August 2026.
Cold to very cold, wet and windy conditions, with possible thunderstorms in some areas, may lead to:
- Localised flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
- Travel disruptions and difficult driving conditions.
- Possible power outages.
- Damage to property and infrastructure.
Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution. Motorists are strongly advised not to attempt to drive through flooded or submerged roads and bridges, as the depth and strength of flowing water may be difficult to determine.
