NOTICE ON POWER SUPPLY REDUCTION at KWA-GUQA SUBSTATION

General notices April 23, 2026 2 min read
The community supplied from Kwa-Guqa 132 Kv substation are hereby informed of a power supply interruption due to the failure of a 40 MVA transformer. The substation under normal situation is operated by means of 2 × 40 MVA transformers to supply communities of Kwa-Guqa new Extensions (Ezinambeni), Hialanikahle Extensions, Empumelelweni Extensions.

The substation is currently being operated only with 1 x 40 MVA transformer instead of 2 transformers. The failure of the transformer has resulted in reduced capacity in terms of electricity supply to the affected communities and hence therefore the need to introduce load reduction as an interim measure to manage the electricity supply to the area. Load reduction is required due to excessive and high loads being experienced during peak times and under cold weather conditions.

The municipality has a spare 40 MVA transformer unit readily available and work is currently underway to replace the faulty transformer unit. The faulty transformer unit will be sent for urgent repairs. Load reduction wil be implemented with immediate effect on a rotational basis until such time that the spare unit is fully installed and commissioned which is envisaged to be by the 7′ of May 2026 pending inclement weather conditions which result in delays.

Consumers are kindly requested to reduce electricity consumption and to use electricity efficiently. The municipality hereby apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
